Good Morning Pioneer Baptist!

Sunday morning we lose one hour of sleep!

I don’t mind setting my clocks forward and having my rest go backward, I just don’t know why I have to get up at 2 in the morning to do it! It’s Daylight Saving Time time again, at least in most states. Daylight saving time 2021 in California will begin at 2:00 AM on Sunday, March 14, so if you forget, you’ll get to Sunday School exactly one hour late. Major Bummer! DST gives us more light in the evening, and therefore helps us better utilize “daylight.” It does what the name says it does, “saves daylight.”

I like it. It means that what little exercise I get riding my bike around the block in La Mirada has a better chance of being accomplished in sunlight rather than moonlight. Better all around! Daylight only lasts for "x amount of hours" and then its either Moonlight or Nonlight. There was a time when nightfall for farmers meant candles, the end of the farming day, and bedtime, but nowadays for a mere cost of between $330,000 and $500,000, farmers drive combines with GPS systems, satellite radio, and lights that turn the night into day. That’s the farmers’ DST.

But there is a Biblical daylight too, and Jesus instructed us to take full advantage of it, saying “I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.” (John 9:4 KJV). When night falls on this earthly life of ours, our chance to work is over. Should the LORD sound the Rapture Trumpet today ending the Church Age, our opportunity to work for the salvation of our loved ones and others would be gone. A glorious rising up for the Christian means a sad evening for those left behind. Biblically, the only Daylight Saving Time is the time we spend seeing lost folks saved, and that time is limited and quickly fading.

The Son arose giving us a daytime salvation. The Son will soon come down in His Return for His bride, signaling sundown and the end of a very special day. If we lose an hour of sleep to help someone understand the Gospel of the LORD Jesus Christ, we have truly “worked the works of Him that sent us!” Now that’s worth losing sleep over!

This is our Daylight Saving Time! Make sure you set your clock on it!

Love to all,

Pastor
