Good Morning Pioneer Baptist!

My Sin”

Believe it or not, remember it or not (if you happen to be ancient) My Sin is actually the name of a ladies’ perfume marketed by Lanvin and created back in 1924 by a mysterious Russian lady called “Madame Zed.” My Sin was discontinued in 1988, but thanks to the purchase of the name by Irma Shorell's Long Lost Perfume you can still find it on line (like just about any other brand of sin). Angela (whoever that is) in a written fragrance review posted a few years ago said this “If you've smelled the Long Lost Perfume version, I'd love to know how it compares to the original.” (Angela, you can rest assured that it stinks just the same as the Original Sin.) My Sin even had one advertisement featuring model Veruschka von Lehndorff striking a suggestive pose with the underlying caption “Veruschka is a sinner.” (Maybe so, but you don’t have to brag about it!) For $383.00 you can get a bottle, showing the price of your sin is not cheap.

King David bought a bottle of My Sin, and he paid even more than 383 shekels for it, and the stench stayed with him throughout his life. (At least I know that my sin has staying power.) In fact, in the great Psalm 51, David wrote “...my sin is ever before me.” Sure enough, but then David also knew the power of God in forgiving sin “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” (Psalm 51:7.) God is the best Cleansing Agent ever! “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” (Titus 3:5.)

God has the very best perfume, one that He featured in His Tabernacle, (Exodus 30) but you can’t purchase the rights to it, you aren’t allowed to imitate it, and there is no formulating a generic brand of it. This scent is God’s, and His alone. It is about God’s presence in the Holy Place, and my sin has no quarter there, there is no place given to the Devil there, but God bestows that wonderful scent on all His children freely. It is the sweet smell of God’s righteousness, His forgiveness, and His eternal love! “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23.) And that Fragrance fills our souls, much like Mary’s ointment of spikenard did when she anointed the feet of Jesus. (John 12:3.)

It’s amazing that a company would minimize the matter of sin and that otherwise reasonable people would literally buy into it, but they do, continually. “Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.” (Proverbs 14:9.) My Sin still lieth at the door in each of our lives, (Gen 4:7) but we don’t have to put it on. We have instead the best. It's a forever lasting, holy fragrance “But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” (Romans 13:14.)

Smells good, doesn’t it!

Love and Prayers to all,

Pastor
