God knows so much, much, much more than I do. “For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counseller?” (Romans 11:34) “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) In God’s sovereignty, He’s got everything all worked out, so that when He, right on time according to His timecolock set forth in Daniel 9:24-27, rode into Jerusalem on the day we call Palm Sunday, He had the plan of the ages well in hand.
On that day, the Messiah of the Jews offered the Kingdom to the Jews under His Divine leadership. But the Devil’s wiles were at play and in force, as the Jewish leaders gave their own devilish testimony “We have no king but Casesar.” And the only crown Jesus would get that day was a crown of thorns, and instead of a coronation there was a crucifixion!
What was God thinking?
Well, He was thinking about a lot more than I would have been. God was thinking about fulfilling His promises to the Jews, and at the same time He was thinking about opening up a door (Jesus) of opportunity for the Gentiles. After all, in the final analysis, God is no respecter of persons, God so loves the world (all of the peoples) and He is playing chess while the rest of us seem to have all we can handle with a game of checkers!
On the Cross, Christ potentially paid for our sins, all of them! Potentially I say, because we must receive Him as our LORD and Saviour for the payment to become effectual. He gave His life to do for us what we could never do for ourselves, and while the Gentiles got their opportunity, the Jews did not lose theirs, as “….the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” (Romans 11:29)
Forgiveness of sins is available to all in our current Church Age, the 1,000 year Kingdom of Heaven where Jesus will truly reign supreme waits in the wings, and eternity and the New Heaven, the New Earth, and the New Jerusalem will surely follow! Palm Sunday was a missed opportunity for our Jewish ancestors, and it was the threshold of an horrific death for the Saviour who loves us all completely. But God still extends His mercy and grace to the Jews today, as He does to the Gentiles.
“O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! (Romans 11:33) So smart, so giving, so sacrificial, so strong, so courageous! All of these divine traits were there, hanging just behind the shadows, as the Messiah of mankind rode into Jerusalem, “….Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass.” (Matthew 21:5)
Hallelujah what a Saviour!!! We are so blessed!
Love and prayers to all!
